PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent desiccant capable of suppressing the generation amount of volatile chlorine ions from a desiccant component to an extremely minute amount of <0.5 ppb. SOLUTION: The desiccant is prepared by compounding 25-300 parts by weight of magnesium oxide and 3-30 parts by weight of calcium hydroxide with 100 parts by weight of magnesium chloride.
