PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of generation of large vibration in starting dewatering. SOLUTION: When a drum 3 is rotated at the number of revolution of fl (90 rpm), ER fluid F in an ER fluid tub 8 is approximately evenly dispersed by centrifugal force [see figure 6 (a)]. When a position of eccentric load reaches an angle of approximately 45 deg. on the near side of the highest position of the drum 3, deceleration is started and the number of revolution of the drum 3 is reduced to f2 (56 rpm) for a short time. The ER fluid F is concentrated to a lower part of the ER fluid tub 8 [see figure 6 (b)]. When the position of the eccentric load to the drum 3 passes the highest end, current is applied between two pairs of electrode pairs E2, E6. The eccentric load generated by laundry inclined to one side can be cancelled by the eccentric load generated by the ER fluid F stopped. The number of revolution of the drum 3 is increased to be high speed (about 700 rpm) to perform dewatering [see figure 6 (c)].
