APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ESTIMATING CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for estimating channels of a communication system are provided to improve the quality of a receiver through exact channel estimation by estimating channels by using all signals including a pilot signal. CONSTITUTION: A pilot channel correlator(52) takes correlation with a Walsh code of a pilot channel for detecting the transmitted signal. A target channel correlator(53) takes correlation with a Walsh code of the corresponding target channel for detecting the signal transmitted through a target channel. The first and the second filter parts(54,55) perform channel estimation by using additional information bit and the output signal of the pilot channel correlator(52). An adder(59) adds and outputs the output signals of the first and the second filter parts(54,55). A power control demodulator(61) demodulates the output signals of the pilot channel correlator(52) and the second filter part(55). A traffic channel demodulator(64) demodulates the output signals of the adder(59) and the target channel correlator(53). The first combiner(66) combines the outputs of each power control demodulators(61) of a plurality of fingers(65) for outputting additional information bit. The second combiner(68) combines the outputs of each traffic channel demodulator(64) of the plurality of fingers(65) for transmitting to a decoder.
