PURPOSE: An automatic water gate is provided to keep the water level in the reservoir regularly by being installed on an underwater barrage of rivers, a spillway of a reservoir, or an irrigation canal for storing water for agricultural and industrial purposes and to be used for composing an underwater barrage installed for ameliorating the polluted water quality. CONSTITUTION: An automatic water gate comprises: a wall or a dam(11) constructed on an underwater barrage, a spillway of a reservoir, a wall of an agricultural water way, etc. to secure agricultural water or industrial water; a water gate(1) formed in a metallic plate or an evaporated shape, filled with low specific-gravity gas such as hydrogen, provided with a hinge shaft(2) on the upper part of the water gate and placed between walls to be inclined conversely to form a regular acute angle toward an inflow of water, wherein the hinge shaft is coupled to the inside of a hinge box(7) attached to a support(4); and a piston(3) formed between the water gate and the support keeps the water gate closed by pressure such as hydraulic pressure or air pressure from a pressure controller operated by an automatic water level sensor(10), when the water level in the reservoir is low, and controls the water gate to discharge water to the lower reaches as much as the water quantity from the upper reaches by the pressure of the piston from the pressure controller operated automatically by signals sensed by the water level sensor if an inflow of water from the upper reaches of rivers is increasing due to a rain or a flood.
