METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR MANAGING MEMORY IN NETWORK PROCESSING SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A memory management method and system is provided to allocate a physical memory section inside a network processor connected to a control point processor according as an application requests a memory allocation inside the network processor via a bus by offering a memory management layer without the need of a complete operating system interface and supporting the asynchronous completion of allocation requests. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of a dynamic memory manager enabling an application to make a registration(70), the dynamic memory manager constructing a reference table for the application(71), the application requesting a memory allocation to the dynamic memory manager(72), the dynamic memory manager transmitting the request of the memory allocation to one more network processors via a bus(73), a physical memory being allocated inside the network processor and a token being returned for a reference(74), the network processor returning a response to the request of the memory allocation and the dynamic memory manager collecting the response(75) and the dynamic memory manager notifying the application of the allocation result(76). In the memory management method, a multi-cast allocation is supported and the allocation can be simultaneously requested on a plurality of network processors.
