METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING DEFECT MANAGEMENT AREA INFORMATION OF OPTICAL DISC AND TEST APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A method for identifying defect management area information of an optical disc and a test apparatus for performing the same are provided to identify whether DMA information is exactly generated and modified on a disc when defect information is recorded on a DMA area, and correctly decode and process the defect information under the same condition. CONSTITUTION: The first test type disc is a disc having known physical defects on a predetermined position of a blank disc. A drive(20) to be tested performs an initialization with certification or an initialization without certification to generate DMA information, and records the generated DMA information on the first test type disc. The disc with DMA(30) provided from the drive(20) to be tested is mounted on a modified drive(40) which can read the DMA information. The modified drive(40) is called a reference drive which is a test-only drive manufactured by a manufacturer. The modified drive(40) reads only the DMA information recorded on the disc(30) and generates the read DMA information into a DMA mirror file(50) on a file system. The drive to be tested is a DVD-RAM record/play device.
