SUBSTANCE: portable machine used for making holes in various structural and building materials can be switched over by means of slide switch to at least two operating modes rotary and shock-and-rotary ones. In one of extreme positions of slide switch end play of spindle carrying anvil with side cams is limited by supporting plate. In this position there is no contact between cams of spindle and those of hammer installed in machine case which provides for only rotary motion of spindle and of portable machine as a whole. In other extreme position of slide switch spindle is free to choose end play and ensure relative contact between cams and reciprocal ones in the course of rotation, and for realize shock-and-rotary mode of portable machine. Slide shutter of slide switch is made in the form of shutter and slide assembly mounted for embracing each other; mentioned slide shutter is inserted in strap body throughout its sectional perimeter. Projections and holes are made in slide and shutter for engaging each other. Spring-locking device of slide switch is made in the form of locking member installed in through hole of strap and spring loaded on one side, its part being arranged in one of two slots of slide on other side depending on extreme position of switch.
