SEPARATOR FOR ALKALINE BATTERY AND ALKALINE BATTERY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator in which an ammonia trap performance has been enhanced and an alkaline battery in which this separator is used and a self-discharge amount is reduced more, and which is superior in the capacity retention rate, compared with the fact that a strong sulfonation of general-purpose polyolefins induces a reduction of fiber strength and a sulfonated fiber surface is peel off and as a result the degree of sulfonation cannot be greatly elevated although ammonia trap performance improves if the degree of sulfonation is elevated. SOLUTION: This is a separator for the alkaline battery wherein a layer which has cellulosic chemical fiber as a reinforcing layer has been bonded to the layer containing the fiber which is obtained by a sulfonic treatment of polyolefinic resin fiber of limiting viscosity 0.2 to 1.00 dl/g.
