Apparatus for brewing coffee has a brewing chamber or cartridge 16 to contain the appropriate amount of coffee, an electrically heated tank 19 to provide hot water and control means to provide delivery of a pre-selected quantity of hot water to initiate brewing and after an interval to provide more hot water to continue brewing and cause delivery of coffee into a decanter 18. A suitable amount of ground coffee for the quantity required is placed in the cartridge 16, the control device is set by means of knob 113 for the number of cups of coffee required and when a signal light 116 indicates that the water in tank 19 is hot enough knob 113 is pressed in momentarily to close a switch and set in motion the motor and cams of the control device so that a sufficient quantity of hot water is delivered through an inlet tube 38 to the cartridge to wet the ground coffee and initiate brewing. After a delay proportional to the number of cups required, more water is supplied to cause hot coffee to flow through a filter 72 and spout 60 to the decanter.</p> |
