PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain in a recording/reproducing device a reproduced signal having both a satisfactory S/N ratio and frequency characteristics by using a simple constitution from an optical recording medium whereon a specific pattern suitable for adjusting the reproduction laser power without affecting the data utilizing efficiency of the optical recording medium is recorded. SOLUTION: In the recording/reproducing device, a solitary wave response monitoring circuit 104 is provided for controlling the value of the set intensity of a light beam with respect to an optical pickup 102 so that the range of the error between a first peak value of the response of the first solitary wave and a second peak value of the response of the second solitary wave falls within the specified range by monitoring the response of the first solitary wave in a training patterns group and the response of the second solitary wave having a polarity opposite to that of the first solitary wave in the output signal of a signal processing part 103.
