PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the font limit of characters to be inserted into an image in a system in which a client performs an editing instruction of the image and a server edits the image based on the editing instruction. SOLUTION: When a user 1 requires a laboratory 2 to transfer the low resolution image data SL of a user image and editing software, the laboratory 2 transfers them to a personal computer 10. The computer 10 receives these transfers, performs editing that inserts characters into the user image by the editing software and generates editing instruction information H representing editing contents. In such a case, character image data M representing the characters to be inserted is generated with resolution being almost the same as that of the user image stored in the laboratory 2. The information H and the data M are transferred to the laboratory 2, and the laboratory 2 performs editing processing that inserts characters into user image data S0 based on the information H and the data M to obtain processed image data S1 and prints out the data S1.
