PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem in terms of the quality control of an X-ray image reader that the photoelectron multiplication factor (gain) is lowered in the long-term use of a photomultiplier. SOLUTION: This reader is provided with an ordinary reading mode for reading a stimulable phosphor sheet with the gain of a registered photoelectric conversion means, a sensitivity registering mode for registering system sensitivity and a gain correcting mode, whereby the system sensitivity under a service environment condition is registered/ reregistered at the time of installing the radiograph reader in a hospital or at the time of exchanging a radiation tube, and the quality control of the radiograph reader is accurately performed. By performing the gain correcting mode, the deterioration of the photoelectric conversion means is corrected. Thus, the load of the quality of the radiograph reader is drastically reduced. Since the gain is easily corrected, time and cost are drastically improved.
