PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator having an effective storage chamber layout and an effective illumination layout improved in facility of usage of a refrigerating storage section. SOLUTION: A first refrigerating chamber 15 having a hinge closing door 20 and a second refrigerating chamber 17 having a drawer type door 22 are laterally partitioned from each other by a first partition wall 13. A shelf 27 having a plurality of stages is situated in the first refrigerating chamber 15, and a plurality of chamber lights 25 are vertically contained in a space in the first partition wall 13. By situating a translucent plate 26 on the surface of the first partition wall 13 throughout the shelf 27 having a plurality of stages, effective illumination to articles on the shelf with a plurality of stages is practicable as effective utilization of an ineffective space in the first partition wall 13 is carried out.
