PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink remaing amount detecting device for a printer which can measure a range from a short distance to a long distance by switching and using distance information from distance sensors having different distance measurement ranges. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a short-distance sensor 94 and a long-distance sensor 95 which come into contact with the bottom surface side of an ink bottle 82 to measure the position of a piston 90, and a selecting means which selects distance information from the sensor 94 or 95 by using information on the distance to the piston 90 obtained from the sensor 94 or 95. Therefore, the position of the piston 90 can be measured continuously from a short distance to a long distance. |
