The voice recorder has a magnetic tape (2) to record sound, a read/write head (3), an electronic device (21,25) connected to the read/write head, a speaker (24), a drive mechanism (4,5,6) for the tape, and spring (7) to operate the drive after it has been wound. A current generator (18) provides power for the electronic device, and is powered by the spring.
