CLASS DISCRIMINATING DEVICE FOR TIMBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a class discriminating device for a timber capable of accurately measuring a Young's modulus. SOLUTION: A butt end of the timber W is struck by a manner 72A. Its striking sound is captured by a sound collector microphone 74. A controller 12 calculates the Young's modulus from a frequency of the sound and a mass (weight) of the timber W. Since the sound is captured by the microphone 74 having directivity, an external noise is not superposed, but the Young's modulus can be accurately measured.
