PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and its method that can adaptively select a registration signal in response to an image signal in a way that the registration signal is easily detected and hardly visible to human eyes when the registration signal is embedded. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus is characterized by that the unit includes a block division means 5101 that divides image data into at least one block or more, an edge detection means 5102 that detects a feature component of the image data included in at least one block among the blocks resulting from dividing the image data, a registration signal selection means 5103 that selects 1st or 2nd registration signal r'1 or r'2 depending on the detected feature component, an adder means 5104 that adds the registration signal selected by the registration signal selection means 5103 to the image data, and a block synthesis means 5105 that synthesizes the blocks divided from the image data by a block division means 5105 to rearrange the image data.
