PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for automatically collecting a toll using a portable terminal are provided to save personnel expenses, and to solve the problems related to the delay/stagnation at a toll station. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for automatically collecting a toll utilizes a portable terminal(10) for informing the entrance and the withdrawal at a toll gate. A base station(20), to which entrance/withdrawal signals from the portable terminal is transmitted, outputs position information about a moving vehicle having the portable terminal by using a position tracking function. The apparatus also adopts a toll processing device(30) comprised of a toll calculating part for calculating a toll to be paid on the basis of the position information, a fare register part for registering the calculated toll to an account of a vehicle owner(40), a data saving part for saving various data generated during the process of the toll, and a control part. |
