PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data reproducing system of an optical disk which can correctly detect data by assuring a detection margin for data detection. SOLUTION: This data reproducing system has a signal reproducing means, a sampling means which samples reproduced signals at prescribed timing, a maximum likelihood data detecting means which defines the most probable data to be reproduced by using the arithmetic data obtained in accordance with the sampling data and the prescribed constant data, a data forming means which forms recording data from the data defined by the maximum likelihood data detecting means in accordance with the sampling data obtained in data regions in respective sectors and an initial value computing means which computes the initial values of the arithmetic data in accordance with the sampling data obtained in VFO regions in the respective sectors.
