The gas bottle consists of a generally cylindrical body (1) with inlet and outlet controls inside a cap. The body and cap are enclosed at least partially in a first and second protective cover (11, 21) which can be separate or in one piece. The body has at least 70 per cent of its outer surface enclosed by its cover, and the controls and cap have at least 70 per cent and preferably 80 - 98 per cent of their surfaces covered. The second cover has cut-outs or detachable portions giving access to the controls, and one or both covers can be made from cardboard, varnished or plastic coated, or a polymer. The cap can have one or more additional polymer covers.
