MULTIPLE ANTENNA RADAR DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the target detecting probability in an on-vehicle and road side-installed radar devices. SOLUTION: The on-vehicle and road side-installed radar devices are provided with plural receiving antennas. A right side receiving antenna 3 and a left side receiving antenna 4 are arranged in parallel in a horizontal plane. A radio wave is emitted from a transmitting antenna 2, and a reflected wave returned from a target 7 is received by the receiving antennas 3 and 4. The receiving antenna larger in received power is selected by a selecting means 5. A received wave of the selected receiving antenna is detected and analyzed by a receiver 6 to determine a distance and a relative speed up to the target 7. The target detecting probability can be enhanced by securing the received power by selecting the receiving antenna larger in the reflecting cross-sectional area and larger in the received power from the receiving antennas different in a position in the horizontal plane.
