PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk-shaped magnetic recording medium capable of large capacity recording and high density recording in the coming generation. SOLUTION: At least a base layer 2 and a metal magnetic layer 3 film- formed on the base layer 2 are formed on a principal surface of a non-magnetic substrate. The base layer 2 is specified to be Cr film-formed by a sputtering method and the metal magnetic layer 3 is specified to be an alloy consisting essentially of Co, consisting of at least Pt added and film-formed by a sputtering method.
