PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evaluate an optical pickup without manufacturing a trial piece and also to shorten the time for setting optical parameters of the optical pickup. SOLUTION: The light quantity of return light from the optical disk is calculated by updating a pit pattern and updating the relative position of the pit and a spot on the optical disk. When the calculation of the light quantities at the relative positions of all the pits and spots is finished, RF signals are calculated on the basis of the light quantities of the return light. When the calculation of the pit patterns is finished about the all pit pattern, the jitter distribution is calculated on the basis of the RF signals, and further the total jitters are calculated. At this time, the total jitters are calculated by separating them to jitters due to the crosstalk from adjacent tracks and jitters due to the interference between codes caused by the array of the pits.
