PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diesel engine having less generated stress by improving the rigidity of a frame portion. SOLUTION: This diesel engine comprises a baseplate portion 9 for storing a crank shaft, etc., a frame portion 6 for storing a connecting rod, etc., and a jacket portion 1 for storing a cylinder, etc., layered on one another and integrally connected to one another with tie bolts 10. Top plates for double partition walls 14, 15 constituting the frame portion 6 are formed to be an integral top plate 22 extending from a cam side to an exhaust side for more rigidity. The partition walls 14, 15 can be formed in a triple structure for more rigidity.
