PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of operating a gasifying incinerator whereby the combustion temperature in a secondary combustion chamber is stable and dioxines and nitrogen oxides are little produced. SOLUTION: In the first stage of incineration, an afterburner 14 stops, and the flow rate of air into a gasifying chamber 6 is controlled to maintain the secondary combustion chamber temperature at a specified value. If the secondary combustion chamber temperature lowers even with the afterburner 14 set to a power of 100%, the incineration is terminated.
