Electrochemical marking process used to reproduce a pattern (44), which is outlined on a stencil (42), on a conducting surface (90) comprises placing the stencil on the surface and coating the stencil with an electrolyte at least in the pattern area. Electrical current is supplied from a generator to a conducting applicator that is placed on the stencil so as to cover the whole pattern. Preferred Features: The electric power supplied from the generator is approximately less than 100 Watts, preferably, approximately 50 Watts. The applicator has an effective surface area of approximately less than 5 square millimeters, preferably, 1-3 square millimeters, more preferably 1.5-2 square millimeters. The applicator (28) is preferably the point of a conducting pen (26). Independent claims are given for: (a) a marking device for implementation of the above electrochemical marking process; (b) utilization of the marking device for marking of metallic components; and (c) a system designed for implementing an electrochemical marking process.
