PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synchronization generating circuit discrimination circuit that is not susceptible to the effect of an equivalent pulse and an external disturbance noise or the like and can independently discriminate a horizontal synchronizing signal/a vertical synchronizing signal, to provide an image processing unit using the circuit and to provide a synchronous frequency discrimination method. SOLUTION: The synchronous frequency discrimination circuit is provided with a system microcomputer 13 that receives a horizontal synchronizing signal H-SYNC and a vertical synchronizing signal V-SYNC from a synchronizing separator circuit 12, stores a horizontal synchronous pulse interval to a buffer as a data group, rearranges (sorts) the stored data in the ascending order (or in the descending order), cuts down data around the minimum and maximum values, averages the remaining data group to obtain a frequency, generates image processing data required for a signal processing circuit 14 on the basis of the obtained frequency and supplies the data to the signal processing circuit 14.
