PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for downloading a device driver via a network concerning a computer peripheral device driver. SOLUTION: An install destination computer 200 reads a device identification 233 and a network address 232 from a peripheral device 230 connected to the install destination computer. Then, the device driver, corresponding to the device identification, is retrieved from a source computer 300 at the network address. A device driver install program 311 can be retrieved from the source computer 300 as well. By running the device driver install program in the install destination computer, the configuration of the install destination computer is determined. The install destination computer requests the device driver for the peripheral device corresponding to the configuration of the install destination computer to the source computer 300. Thus, that device driver is installed in the install destination computer.
