A process for the automatic application of a protective lacquer onto optical glass blanks comprises laying the blanks on to the sliding plate of a linear unit; passing the blanks at a constant speed via a vacuum distributor to a heat source to heat the blanks to 35-60 deg C, passing the blanks under an application system for the protective lacquer and heating the coated blanks in air. A process for the automatic application of a protective lacquer onto optical glass blanks comprises decentrally gripping optical glass blanks supplied to a job tray by means of a spin gripper and laying the blanks on to the sliding plate of a linear unit; passing the blanks at a constant speed via a vacuum distributor to a heat source to heat the blanks to 35-60 deg C; passing the sliding plate at the same speed under an application system for the protective lacquer and optionally situating an application vat for recovery of the protective lacquer; passing the sliding plate through a channel having a heat source and counter air stream and again laying the optical glass blanks onto a job tray.
