<p>Rather than a printed receipt, the present invention discloses a receipt to be given to the customer that is embodied in a recordable digital storage medium. This digital media receipt (DMR) is generated at the point of sale and contains not only the information derived from the current transaction, but allows related relevant information supplied by a background electronic system monitoring the transaction to also be recorded on the DMR. The information developed by the background system from information input to it at the cash register may be wide ranging, for example, warranty information, special instructions for use or maintenance of the product, safety warnings, suggestions for use of related products, bonus air miles, and other customized information specific to the interests of the purchaser of the product. Additionally, other general non-specific product oriented information may be recorded or pre-recorded on the DMR, such as, coupon offerings, advertisements, or general corporate information. The DMR is readable on an electronic reader at the customer's location that can provide access to the Internet and to webpages linkable to the recorded information on the DMR.</p> |
