The device for securing a load(10) on the roof of a vehicle includes a tear-free weatherproof bag-type holder(11) which with its opening opposite the direction of travel slips over the ends of the load in the fashion of a cap. A tensioning system is provided for detachable fastening of the holder on the roof rack and for adjustment of a desired clamping position. The tensioning system comprises a fastening strap(13), rope or chain, and a tensioning device in the form of a ratchet(15). An Independent claim is included for a roof rack system equipped with the proposed load securing device.
