The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1035915/C2/1> wherein R is a hydrogen or an acyl radical -CO.Z in which Z is an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic in which Z is an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group, preferably t-butyl, pyridyl, thienyl, furyl, phenyl, or substituted phenyl bearing from one to three substituents consisting of flourine, chlorine, bromine C1 to C4 alkyl or C1 to C4 alkoxy radicals. The N-amino ephedrines are made by reduction, e.g. with lithium aluminium hydride or zinc in acetic acid, of the corresponding N-nitroso-ephedrines, which are produced from ephedrine and nitrous acid at low temperature in an acidic, aqueous medium. The N-acylamino ephedrines are made by heating N-amino-ephedrine or N-amino-pseudo-ephedrine with a substantially equimolar proportion of an acyl chloride, preferably in an inert, organic solvent and in a medium containing an acid binding agent.
