ARTICULATED PIGGING DEVICE

Apparatus for cleaning a pipeline and carrying a payload of instrumentation and sensors is described that comprises a train of substantially spherical pigs (5, 6) connected by an articulated member (8). The articulated member (8) is such that it permits individual movement of each pig (5, 6) relative to itself. Such apparatus can be employed in the negotiation of sharp bends in a pipeline while simultaneously restraining any uncontrolled rotation of the pigs. As such the apparatus is suitable for supporting a payload of instrumentation and measuring devices that provide efficient and accurate monitoring of the physical conditions within the pipeline.
