A sensor (A) for detecting macromolecular biopolymers (I) comprising: (i) a first layer (L1) with a material (B) for detecting electromagnetic waves; (ii) a second layer (L2) over L1; and (iii) a 'trench' cut in L2, positioned over (B) so that waves that reach the trench can be detected, where at least one side wall of the trench has a region for retaining molecules (II) that bind to (I), is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) sensor arrangement consisting of (A) and a unit for generating waves that are conducted into the trench; (2) detecting (I) using (A); and (3) preparing (A).
