The invention maps a gene (SCZ) associated with schizophrenia to the q22 region of chromosome 1. The invention exploits this discovery to provide methods of diagnosing schizophrenia and schizophrenia susceptibility, method s of screening for the SCZ gene, and libraries of cloned segments including th e SCZ gene.
