A three-dimensionally shaped composite article incorporating a heating element is made by placing a flat, deformable heating element into the mold space and adding a plastic matrix. The article (1) is then formed by pressing and hardening, the heating element (2) bonding to the matrix at the same time. Fiber reinforcement can also be placed in the mold before adding the matrix material. An independent claim is also included for a composite article, especially a car door trim component, made in this way. The reinforcement material can be impregnated with the matrix material. The heating element can be placed on the front or back surface, either integrated into the matrix or attached by adhesive.
