Detecting and correcting nonlinearities in microwave radar system e.g. for motor vehicle by detecting reference signal during application of test drive voltage and using to correct fm curve

The method involves connecting in a time window (Delta t) a predetermined constant test drive voltage (16) to the transmitter oscillator (1), instead of a voltage for effecting frequency modulation. The reference signal detected during the application of the test drive voltage, corresponding to a frequency value (FGUNN) of the transmission oscillator, is used to correct the characteristic curve for frequency modulation, and thus to compensate for nonlinearities.
