The cylinder head (4) of the internal combustion piston engine has a mode of operation of the valves which makes it possible to control the lifting valves (6, 7) as regards their position and the extent of their movement by means of the gas exchange apertures in the combustion chamber (3), without altering the camshaft or the turning lever (37).
