Method for checking the set-up of the suspension of motor vehicles, in particular for measuring the total toe-in and camber angles of the wheels. Two or preferably four videocameras in predetermined fixed positions are used, said videocameras being able to define a fixed spatial reference system, each videocamera being associated with a respective wheel. The method comprises the steps of: identifying, for each wheel, its profile projected onto the optical sensor plane of the respective videocamera, as the locus of the points of greatest variation in luminous intensity; calculating mathematically, using the least square fit method, the conic section which best approximates the profile thus obtained; calculating, from the equation of this conic section and from the known coordinates of the position of the videocameras in the fixed spatial system, the two angles which define - with respect to a vertical longitudinal plane and with respect to a horizontal plane - the orientation of a bundle of parallel planes which intersect, in the form of a set of circles, the cone obtained projecting into space the conic section "viewed" by the videocamera, these angles representing the total toe-in and the camber of the wheel, respectively.
