A system and method (Fig. 1) for automatically collecting consumer product interest data utilizes a consumer assist device, CAD (25), to allow the consumer to make and record a "first selection" of a product. The consumer assist device then provides the consumer with at least one option relating to the product. Each time the consumer makes a selection to view one of the options available (a "second selection"), the second selection is recorded, and the record contains the same type of information contained in records relating to the first selection of the product. A comparison is performed between the products selected and products purchased. If product selected was purchased, correlation is recorded. Collected data are provided to users according to authorization levels.
