The invention relates to a method for monitoring an open jet centrifuge installed in a fluid system, and to a centrifuge suitable for installation in such a system. The inventive centrifuge (10) is provided with sensors, especially a piezoelectric sensor (22) and/or a speed sensor (24). Said sensors allow detection on the rotor of parameters of the centrifuge such as charge by the filter cake, bearing wear or other malfunctions independent of the axial force component generated by the input nozzles (18). The signals obtained are evaluated by an electronic analytical system (23) that can output an error signal (f).
