A mobile telephone, combined with a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, determines its location via longitude and latitude measurements, and uses look-up tables to ascertain the time-zone in which it is; from this, it stores the time-zone in memory, updates the handset clock and displays the local time. After the time is re-set, dialling may proceed as normal within the new time-zone. If the time-zone is the same as that of the residential location of the telephone, no action is taken. |
