The clamping unit (see Fig 3) has two clamping means 100 with pivotally mounted arms (2, 4, 28, 30, Fig 1) which allow it to clamp pipe 50, from above, in such a way that pipe 50 doesn't need to be moved or lifted for the clamping operation to occur. Pipe 50 is then held sufficiently steady for operations such as electrofusion welding to be performed on the pipe. The clamping means 100 are connected together by transverse bars 102 via adjustable mounting blocks 103 so that sections of pipe can be clamped together. Mounted arms (2, 4, Fig 1) are pivoted by means of pivot 6 so that pipe contacting elements 24, 26 grip the pipe 50. Straight arms (28, 30, Fig 1) pivot around pivotal mounting 32 and are adjusted by upwards or downwards movement of pivotal mounting 32. This adjustment can be provided by means of a threaded engagement (not shown) between pivotal mountings 6 and 32. |
