The use of Ag-Cu-Pd brazing materials, for direct brazing of a titanium component to a surrounding stainless steel component, is new. Preferably, the brazing material has the composition 68.5 wt.% Ag, 26.5 wt.% Cu and 5 wt.% Pd. Also claimed is production of a directly brazed assembly of a titanium component and a surrounding stainless steel component, using an Ag-Cu-Pd brazing material, by (a) providing a titanium component (11) having a cylindrical end (111) of diameter smaller than its adjoining main portion (112); (b) providing a cylindrical steel sleeve (12) of inside diameter equal to the outside diameter of the main portion (112) of the titanium component (11); (c) placing brazing material (13) around the reduced diameter end (111) of the titanium component (11); (d) pushing the sleeve (12) onto the main portion (112) of the titanium component (11); and (e) brazing the assembly by heating in a vacuum, protective gas or inert gas. |
