PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for hydrogenating a chloroprene-type polymer efficiently using a simplified process. SOLUTION: The carbon-carbon double bond in a chloroprene-type polymer prepared by polymerizing 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene monomer and, optionally, another monomer copolymerizable with the monomer is selectively hydrogenated with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenating catalyst. The chloroprene-type polymer is used in the form of a latex. First, the hydrogenating catalyst is dissolved or dispersed in an organic solvent that can dissolve or swell the polymer, and then the latex is mixed with or dispersed in the solvent, followed by bringing hydrogen into contact with the polymer in that state.
