PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide sanitary earthenware improved in mechanical strength while checking the firing shrinkage and/or deformation of a body part to the utmost. SOLUTION: This sanitary earthenware composed of a pottery body and a glaze layer formed in necessary parts on the body features that the body contains 45-70 wt.% of SiO2, 25-50 wt.% of Al2O3 and a total amount of <=6 wt.% of the group consisting of an alkali metal oxide and an alkaline earth metal oxide, a content of the alkali metal oxide in the body is <=2 wt.%, and an amount of Na2O is >=20 wt.% based on the total amount of Na2O and K2O.
