PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based matte coating composition excellent in transparency, water resistance, waterproofing properties, weather resistance and stainproofing properties against mold, algae and the like, produced at high efficiency, inexpensive, and exerting no bad influences to human beings and the environment as an overcoating material for a fair-faced concrete surface or a stone-like finished surface or as an overcoating material in remodeling of porcelain tiles, and to provide a method for matte coating using the same composition. SOLUTION: The water-based matte coating composition comprises a synthetic resin emulsion and/or a water-soluble resin and a wax dispersion comprising a wax dispersed in water. The matte coating method comprises applying the composition to a fair-faced concrete surface, a stone-like finished surface or a porcelain tile surface.
