PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a temperature rise of a recording head in a copying mode. SOLUTION: A running speed of a carriage is set for every plurality of resolutions for each of a normal mode and the copying mode. A recording head loaded to the carriage records images one line by one line to a sheet while the carriage is running. In this dot impact printer, the running speed of the carriage in the copying mode is set to be almost equal to the running speed of the carriage in the other mode. A non printing time after the recording head records one line before the recording head records a next line can be variably set to make constant an electric energy to be supplied per predetermined time of the recording head.
