PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire by which a weld metal excellent in strength and toughness and free from high temperature cracking can be obtained even in the case of large heat input-high interpass temperature welding. SOLUTION: This carbon dioxide gas shield arc welding wire contains specified amounts of Cu, V, Nb and B in addition to a componential composition prescribed by JIS, and in which, further, an Mp value shown by the following formula (1) improving the tensile strength of a weld metal satisfies >=0.21%, an Al(%)/O(%) value improving its impact capacity satisfies 0.2 to 2.2, and a Cs value preventing its high temperature cracking satisfies <=0.21%: Mp(%)=C (%)+Si(%)/30+Mn(%)/20+Ti(%)/10+V(%)/4+Nb(%)/2+5B(%)...(1), and Cs(%)= Mn(%)/5+20B(%)+P(%)+S(%)-2C(%)-Ti(%)...(2).
