PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) comprising units of a variously structured monomer having a substituents as a side chain and being useful as a device material, a medical material, or the like and a method for producing PHA by using microorganisms. SOLUTION: Anω-substituted linear alkanoic acid which is substituted with one six-membered atomic group selected from a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted phenoxy group, and a substituted cyclohexyl group at a molecular terminal is used as a starting material used in a culture medium, and microorganisms are cultured in the medium to produce a polyhydroxyalkanoate comprising units derived from a monomer being the correspondingω-substituted-3-hydroxy-alkanoic acid. |
